SPECIAL EVENTS

ICE AGE MOVIE NIGHT!

Ages: For the whole family
When: Tuesday, June 30, 2009
Time: 6:00 - 7:45 p.m.

It's movie night at the library! Bring your whole family and join us as we watch "Ice Age" ("Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" will be in theatres July 1). We'll provide the popcorn and candy -- you don't even have to buy tickets! Just bring a sleeping bag and/or a stuffed animal friend. See you at the movies! Register in the Children's Department.


NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM MOVIE NIGHT!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM: DAY AT THE MUSEUM!
Seven Weeks, June 22 - August 7, 2009

It's time for our Summer Reading Program!

Need a little fun in the summer sun? Join us at the library summer reading program for "Day at the Museum!" Summer 2009 is all about the amazing adventures to be found at the museum, everything from art to history to dinosaurs to outer space ... and much more! Sign-ups for the Summer Reading Program begin at our Kickoff Party on June 6.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM KICKOFF ON SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Learn about the programs, get your reading folders to earn special prizes, play games, taste treats, and sample some of the extraordinary exhibits planned for the summer! The fun lasts for seven weeks from June 22 - August 7, concluding with a special "Souvenir Shhop" and "Museum Trip" for all our participants! There is a $5.00 fee for the entire program payable upon sign-up. Your summer of discovery and adventure begins at the library museum!



MIGHTY MUSEUM-MITES!

Ages: For adventurers entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade

SUMMER PROGRAMS SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN (BABIES - PRESCHOOL) DURING THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Sign-ups for these programs begin May 4 for residents; May 11 for non-residents.


BOOK BABIES / MOTHER GOOSE STORYTIME

Ages: Birth - 24 months with an adult
Duration: 7 weeks, June 23 - August 4, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 10:00 - 10:20 a.m.

You can't start too early! Book babies will gain contact with language through stories, songs, rhymes, and finger plays, helpig them take their first steps toward a lifetime love of books and reading


TODDLER TALES

Ages: 2 - 3½ years with an adult
Duration: 7 weeks, June 22 - August 3, 2009
When: Mondays, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.

They can walk, they can talk -- and they can learn! This 30-minute program adds crafts and fun to stories for further encouragement on the way to becoming lifelong readers. Register in the Children's Department.


PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

Ages: 3½ - 5
Duration: 7 weeks, June 23 - August 4, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. or1:00 - 1:45 p.m.
Enrollment limit: 35 children

They're almost ready to learn on their own -- help them get there with this parent-optional preschool storytime. Stories, games, activities, movies, crafts and more make this 45-minute program a big hit. Register in the Children's Department.


TINY TUNES TODDLER

Ages: 2-3½ with an adult
Duration: 7 weeks, June 24 - August 5, 2009
When: Wednesdays, 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. OR 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Limit: 15 children

Tiny Tunes is a fun, casual program of playing with and learning about music. Every week explore a different theme and way to make music. Register in the Children's Department.


BODIES IN MOTION

Ages: 2-5 with an adult
Duration: 7 weeks, June 22 - August 5, 2009
When:

Mondays, 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. OR
Wednesdays, 11:15 - 11:45 a.m.

Have fun and keep fit at the library! A 30-minute program filled with wiggling, giggling, jiggling fun! Register in the Children's Department.


MONDAY STORYTIME FOR PRESCHOOLERS

Ages: 3 - 5 years old
When: Mondays, 6:00 - 6:45 p.m.

Join us in the Story Corner of the Family Activity Center for stories read by local teenagers. Register at the circulation desk.


PROGRAMS FOR GRADES ONE AND UP

BECOME A SEARCH SLEUTH!

When: Half hour session -- you name the date and time!

The library is the place to go to find what you need ... but where is it? Become an expert in the library catalog and find what you need at the library! Learn what clues to search for, how to find them, and how to follow the clues to find what you're looking for. In this one-session class, you will learn skills in library research, including keywords, types of searches, and much, much more. Get with a group or go one-on-one. Sign up today in the Children's Department and be on your way to becoming a search sleuth!


GIRL'S NIGHT OUT

Ages: Girls in grades 4th - 8th and their moms / caregivers
When: 1st Monday of the month, January 5, February 2, March 2, April 6, May 4, August 3, 2009
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

It's a girls night out! This after-school group meets once a month -- just us girls! Enjoy reading together, watching chick flicks, and sharing in this special mother-daughter book club! Register in the Children's Department.


FANS OF FANTASY BOOK CLUB

Ages: Grades 4 -8
When: Last Thursday of the month, January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30, May 28, August 27, 2009
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Attention Harry Potter lovers! Now that the last book has come out ... what do we read next? Fans of fantasy get together for a fun-filled night of games, snacks, prizes, crafts, movies, and much more! Join us as we meet once a month to talk about the new books we've read and what we'll read next. Register in the Children's Department.

FAMILY PAJAMA STORYTIME

Ages: For kids and parents of all ages
When: 3rd Tuesday of the month, January 20, February 17, March 17, April 21, May 19, August 18, 2009 (no sessions in June and July)
Time: 7:00 - 7:45 p.m.

Bring the whole family to this once-a-month evening storytime. Come in your pajamas for a night of crafts, snacks, movies, and, of course, stories! Register in the Children's Department.


ARTS ACTIVITIES/PROGRAMS (DRAMA, MUSIC, DRAWING/PAINTING)

CHALK PASTELS

Ages: 4 - 6
Duration: 4 weeks, July 7 - 29, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Limit: 12 children
Cost: $13.00 plus supplies

Ages: 7 - 13
Duration: 4 weeks, July 7 - 29, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Limit: 15 children
Cost: $15.00 plus supplies

Students will learn basic drawing techniques with chalk pastels. Register at the library's circulation desk; please see supply list when registering.


WATERCOLOR PENCIL DRAWING

Ages: 4 - 6
Duration: 4 weeks, August 10 - 24, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Limit: 12 children
Cost: $13.00 plus supplies

Ages: 7 - 13
Duration: 4 weeks, August 10 - 24, 2009
When: Tuesdays, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Limit: 15 children
Cost: $15.00 plus supplies

Students will learn basic drawing techniques with watercolor pencils. Register at the library's circulation desk; please see supply list when registering.


KID SURVEY

Washington County Libraries along with various community partners are creating a webpage specifically for students in grades 4-8.
