SPECIAL EVENTS

SLEEPING-BAG STORY-TIME

Ages: All ages and parents
When: Friday, March 12, 2010
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

WHEN THE LIBRARY LIGHTS GO OUT...THEN THE FUN BEGINS!! Come to the library for a special after-hours celebration! All ages are welcome to our Sleeping-Bag Story-Time complete with games, crafts, stories, snacks, and movies! Wear your favorite pajamas and bring a blanket, stuffed toy, or sleeping-bag for a cozy, fun evening at the library. Register in the Children's Department. Note: Ages 10 – 18 are invited to stay for our all-night Library Lock-In; see the Young Adult Department for details!

LET'S READ A TON OF BOOKS!

How to participate:

  • Beginning Monday, March 22, every time you check out books, come to the Children's Department ot have them weighed.
  • For every whole pound read, you will receive one ticket. Fill it out and drop it in the number of the prize you would like to try to win!
  • Once the TON of BOOKS (2,000 pounds) is achieved, there will be a drawing of the winning ticket for each prize.
  • For each additional TON read, there will be additional prizes to be won.

  • Saturday, April 17 (the last day of National Library Week) marks the end of the contest. Happy Reading!





    WHEE FOR WII!

    Ages: for Ages up to 10 years

    Can’t wait until you’re old enough to play games in the Teen Room? Finally, there’s a gaming night just for you! Play new kids’ Wii games like Toy Story, Star Wars, Super Mario and more. Then check them out and take them home for even more Wii fun! No teens allowed—this one’s just for the kids! Register in the Children’s department.


    PRINCESS PARTY

    It's movie night at the library! Bring your whole family and watch "The Pagemaster" to celebrate National Library Week!. We'll provide the popcorn and candy -- you don't even have to buy tickets!     DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Day!

    All are welcome to come to the library Friday, April 6 for our DEAR Day: Drop Everything and Read! At special times during the day we will announce it is time for our library-wide stop, drop, and read time. Participants will earn small prizes as well as enjoy quiet reading time with family and friends. Bring your favorite book or pick one up while you’re here and be prepared for DEAR Day at the Library!


    CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL

    "SPEEDY DELIVERY" MR. MCFEELY VISITS THE LIBRARY!

    Join us at the library for a visit with one of our favorite neighbors. Mr. McFeely (aka David Newell) will be stopping by to share stories about some of the "Neighborhood of Make Believe" puppets he will have with him, and will also lead a sing-along of favorite "Neighborhood" songs.     You can't start too early at the library! In this 20-minute program, babies will gain contact with language through stories, songs, rhymes, and finger plays, helping them take their first steps toward a lifetime love of books and reading. Register in the Children's Department.


    MOTHER GOOSE TIME

    Ages: 12 - 24 months with an adult
    Duration: 9 weeks, March 23 - May 18, 2010
    When: Tuesdays, 11:00 - 11:20 a.m.

    They're just learning to talk -- give them something to talk about! 20 minutes of books, fun rhymes, songs and finger plays to encourage language growth and a love of reading. Register in the Children's Department.


    TODDLER TALES

    Ages: 2 - 3½ years with an adult

    They can walk, they can talk -- and they can learn! This 30-minute program adds crafts and fun to stories for further encouragement on the way to becoming lifelong readers. Register in the Children's Department.


    PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

    Ages: 3½ - 5
    Duration: 9 weeks, March 23 - May 19, 2010

    KINDERGARTEN STORYTIME -- "WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO BE SILLY TOO?! "

    Ages: Kindergartners and 5-year-olds
    Duration: 9 weeks, March 19 - May 14, 2010 (please note: no class on April 2, 2010)

    This full-hour program goes the next step in learning and loving reading through stories, activities, crafts, and movies, all centered on tales about "Wouldn't You Like to be Silly Too?!" Register in the Children's Department.


    BODIES IN MOTION

    Duration: 9 weeks March 25 - May 20, 2010

    Have fun and keep fit at the library! A 30-minute program filled with wiggling, giggling, jiggling fun! Register in the Children's Department.


    BODIES IN YOGA

    Ages: 3-6 with an adult
    Duration: 9 weeks, March 22 - May 17, 2010
    When: Mondays, 1:15 - 1:45 p.m. OR 2:15 - 2:45 p.m. (no 2:15 - 2:45 p.m. class during winter session)
    Limit: 12

    Library fun—with a twist! This new yoga class adapted for preschool children develops body awareness, language, and good listening skills while inspiring the imagination through guided “play.” Yoga postures and breathing techniques will be taught in a fun and playful way. Children will stretch, sing, move, and imitate in this 30-minute yoga class for youngsters. Have child dressed comfortably and prepared to “play” in bare feet!     TINY TUNES TODDLER

    Ages: 2-3½ with an adult
    Duration: 9 weeks, March 22 - May 20, 2010

    BITTY BERETS FRENCH FOR FUN!

    Bienvenue! (Welcome!) to Bitty Berets—an easy and fun French class for preschoolers! We will learn the French alphabet, numbers 1-10, colors, days of the week, and other beginning French words, phrases, and songs.     PAWS FOR READING

    Ages: Grades 1 and up

    Come into the library, curl up with a canine companion, and ... you guessed, read! In this returning program, children in grades 1 and up can visit with a registered therapy dog at the library to gain extra self-confidence and fluency by spending time reading to these attentive animals.     ENGLISH-CHINESE FOR CHILDREN

    HOME-SCHOOL HAPPENINGS

    Ages: Grades 1 - 5

    Introducing a brand-new program at your local library—Home-School Happenings! For homeschooled children in 1st – 5th grades, this special program adds fun to the school day with sessions of creative and educational classes, including science (bizarre experiments!), math (Sudoku challenge!), reading (mad libs!), and much more! The day also includes a Jeopardy Quiz Bowl, Wii Sports for ‘Recess,’ art & music, and a break for lunch. With so many fun and educational activities, the day is sure to pass quickly and be a ton of fun! As a companion to the program, a children’s staff member will give a tour of the library to parents while their kids are in “school,” and a guest speaker with Pennsylvania Cyber/Charter School will speak on their homeschooling program as well as discuss general options for homeschooling parents.     MAKE A SPLASH!! 2010 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
    9 weeks, June 21 - August 20, 2010


    Need a little fun in the summer sun? Join us at the library and "Make a Splash!!" Summer 2010 is all about the amazing, fun, and cool things we can do with water!

    Sign-ups begin at our Kickoff Party June 5, 11:00-2:00. Learn about the programs, get your reading folders to earn special prizes, play games, taste treats, and sample some of the wet and wild water fun planned for the summer! The “Make a Splash” Summer Reading Program provides days of exciting and educational fun for all. We’ll read stories, watch movies, make crafts, play games, and learn all about the wet, wild, and wonderful world of water! And as a special bonus, every book you read during the nine weeks of summer earns tokens to be spent on fantastic prizes like books, crafts, and other awesome rewards! Summer Reading lasts for nine weeks from June 21 - August 20, concluding with a special "Splash Shop" and "Water Park" for all our participants. Your summer of discovery and adventure begins with a “splash” at the library!

    Sign up for the K-6 Summer Reading Program starting June 5 at the Peters Township Public Library. Note: There is a $5.00 fee to help cover the cost of materials, payable upon sign-up.
