Information for Borrowers

LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP

Membership is free to all residents of Peters Township. The Peters Township Public Library is a member of the Washington County Library System which makes possible free library service to all residents of Washington County. Free service is also available to all library card holders participating in Access Pennsylvania. Otherwise, a fee is charged to persons residing outside of the county. Children of any age may obtain a card. One parent must be registered, and the signature of a parent is necessary on all applications for a juvenile card, grade 7 and younger.

LIBRARY CARDS

Borrowers are required to use a bar-coded Peters Township library card when checking out materials and for use of the Library's computers. Children from pre-school age through seventh grade must have a parent sign their application for a library card.

Please Click here for a printable Library Card Application form. You may fill out this form and bring it to the library's circulation desk to receive a library card. Please remember to also bring a valid photo ID with proof of address when submitting your form.

LOAN OF MATERIALS - Length of Time:

  • Books, paperback books, books on CD, Playaways, Teaching Company "Great Courses" DVDs and CDs, music CDs, LeapPad electronic platforms, children's interactive books, and puppets may be borrowed for a period of THREE WEEKS and may be renewed for three additional weeks, if there are no other requests for the item.
  • BiFolkal Kits are loaned for THREE WEEKS with no renewals.
  • Bestsellers are loaned for TWO WEEKS and may be renewed once only if there are no other requests for the item.
  • DVDs, Wii video games and Xbox video games are loaned for ONE WEEK and may be renewed for one additional week if there are no other requests for the item.
  • Magazines and pamphlets may be checked out for ONE WEEK with no renewals.
  • Interlibrary loan materials may not be renewed.

Number of Items:

  • There is no limit to the number of items adults may borrow
  • Children may borrow five items at a time unless accompanied by a parent, in which case there is no limit. Children are limited to borrowing five children's videos at a time on their card, regardless of whether or not they are accompanied by a parent.

RENEWAL OF MATERIALS

Materials may be renewed either at the library's circulation desk, by telephone, or through the library's website. To learn more about accessing the renewal function through the website, please visit the circulation desk to retrieve your personal identification number (PIN) and instructions for using this service.

FINES and FEES

Fines for overdue materials and other fees are as follows:

  • Adult and Young Adult books, Playaways, CDs, magazines, pamphlets, BiFolkal Kits: $.25 per day
  • Children's books, Playaways, CDs, magazines, pamphlets, interactive books, LeapPad materials and puppets: $.10
  • Interlibrary loans : $.50 per day
  • Feature Film DVDs: $.50 per day
  • All other DVDs, Wii video games, and Xbox video games: $1.00 per day
  • Lost library card : $2.00
  • Checking out materials without library card : $.50

RESERVING ITEMS

Patrons may reserve items by either filling out a form at the circulation desk, or by placing a reserve through the library's website. Notification will be made by telephone. After notification, the item will be held at the circulation desk for three days. If the item is not picked up in that time, it is passed on to the next name on the waiting list or reshelved. To learn more about accessing the reserve function through the website, please visit the circulation desk to retrieve your personal identification number (PIN) and instructions for using this service. NOTE : Interlibrary loans are not considered normal reserves.

INTERLIBRARY LOANS

If the Peters Township Public Library does not have a book, we can try to retrieve it via the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. Any registered borrower may place an ILL request using a special form. Patrons will be notified by phone when the item is ready for pickup. Items will be held for a period of one week. If the item is not picked up in one week, the patron will be charged $1.00 to cover the administrative cost of handling the ILL.
